On the one hand, no, you really don't want them to be stealing anything, but on the other hand, if one of your guys feels strongly enough about a book to rip it off, that's a good sign, right?
Right?
There are a lot of great curriculum tie-ins with particular days. You and your team might want to make a big deal out of March 14th - Pi Day. (Get it? 3.14?) We did this a couple of years ago. We showed our guys short movies about Pi (and pie), had them perform Pi skits and line up with a series of numbers, reading off the first 60 or so digits of Pi. We finished off the day by handing out individual pies. (Now, a couple of years later, I'm thinking, maybe we should have had them read Life of Pi in Literacy to prepare.)
[For no particular reason, here is a video of my new hero celebrating the glories of Pi.]
Next May, we'd like to celebrate the annual Cheese Rolling at Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire, England - another event I'd heard about, but was reminded of by The Teacher's Calendar.
Anyway - it's nice to have a resource that tells about commemorations, holidays, observances, anniversaries and birthdays of celebrities on hand for any given day.
Except that my copy of The Teacher's Calendar almost always gets stolen halfway through the year.
And I'm not sure how I feel about that.
