So, just for the sake of argument, let's say you are an enormous, enormous nerd. And further, that you are listening to a story in a podcast about the work crews who install wooden water tanks on rooftops in New York City.

And - hypothetically speaking - let's say you realized you could use that segment of the podcast next Spring in one of your lessons about the New York City water system.

Would there be an easy, elegant way to save just that small bit of the podcast?

As it turns out, there would.

Now, I'm going on the assumption that you've been listening to your podcasts in iTunes. You may not listen to your podcasts that way. You probably don't. But remember, we've already stipulated that you are an enormous, enormous nerd, so for the sake of this discussion, we're going to assume that you do.

Open the Podcast section of iTunes and select the podcast you want to edit.

Right click (or 2-finger click if you are using a Mac) your selection and choose the "Show in Finder" option.

This will call up the sound file for your podcast in a new window. Right/2-finger click the file you are looking for and choose "Open With", then whatever program you use to edit sound files (I like Audacity.)

Find where the section you want begins and ends. Delete everything else, then Export the file to wherever you want to save it.

Assuming you are this big a dork, I think it is fair to say that it probably only took you five years of using iTunes to figure all this out.
