I teach at a rural PreK-8 school. My classroom is located at the extreme opposite corner of the school from the 1st Grade classrooms.

With so much emphasis put on Math and Reading test scores, I don't tend to think about how much groundwork my elementary school colleagues lay in Social Studies skills for our students.

I saw this on their bulletin board this morning.

They have hand-drawn a map of our town. Each student has made a tiny, paper model of his or her house and placed it on the map.

This is awesome in ways I can't even begin to articulate.

Elementary school colleagues - thank you for doing this.

Thank you for being really good at what you do.

Thank you for finding ways to be outstanding Social Studies teachers.

Thank you.
